Ski Touring & Snowshoeing

Here, you can experience nature up close: For all ski tour enthusiasts, Villgraten Valley offers a wide range of routes. Enjoy untouched snowfields and take in the views of the surrounding peaks as you carve your own tracks in the fresh powder. Starting directly from the Oberschaller Alm or the Giatla Hof, the vast world of ski touring opens up, giving you the opportunity to experience a new tour every day of the week. From Kreuzspitze to Gaishhörndl and Kalksteiner Jöchl, you'll find your own personal favorite route.

These trails are also accessible with snowshoes, offering a unique experience with the “Original Villgrater Snow Tires”, which we provide free of charge.

Inspiration: Explore the winter landscape of the Villgrater Mountains with a local mountain guide, who will lead you with snowshoes to the most beautiful spots in the Villgraten Valley. Or, join a local ski touring guide on a guided tour from Herz-Ass to the peaks of the Villgrater Mountains.

Alpine Ski

All skiers and snowboarders can look forward to one of the most beautiful ski ares in Tyrol, the Thurntaler (Ski Center Hochpustertal). With two valley descents (one of which leads right into the heart of Villgraten Valley), 45 snow-sure kilometers of slopes and various levels of piste difficulty, there is skiing fun for everyone, both young and old.

Cross-country skiing

Are you looking for the secluded tranquility of a cross-country skiing trail? Then you're sure to find the perfect spot among over 400 groomed kilometers of trails thoughout East Tyrol. For example, the “Innervillgraten” cross-country trail, with a height difference of 90 meters and a total length of 10 kilometers, is ideal for a unique skating excursion through the remote valley world. Stretching across 100 kilometers between Kartitsch, Obertilliach and Untertilliach, ten cross-country loops cater to everyone from beginners to elite athletes.

Tobogganing

What else is possible in our Villgraten Valley? How about an exciting tobogganing adventure? Hop on you toboggan directly at the Oberschaller Alpine Hut, glide down the alpine path and pass through the small forest behind the Badl-Alm to reach the illuminated toboggan run in Kalkstein (total length: two kilometers). This toboggan track is also accessible from the Giatla Hof after a short walk. We provide toboggans from Bachmann free of charge at both the Oberschaller Alpine Hut and the Giatla Hof.

Useful Information

If your arrive without the appropriate ski equipment, you can rent everything you need at Sunny Sport 2000 in Sillian, located directly at the valley station of the Hochpustertal cable cars, and the Ski Rental Schett in the heart of Innervillgraten.

The Hochpustertal Ski School in Sillian will assist you with all your new snow experiences.

From Innervillgraten (Maxer Chapel), the free ski bus will take you several times in the morning directly to Sillian (valley station of Hochpustertal cable cars) and back in the afternoon. The approximately 12 km journey takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The “Maxer” stop is about a five-minute drive from Kalkstein.
